While Ennis, Montana sits poised between Yellowstone and Glacier national parks, this pretty little town is a destination all in itself. Tucked amongst three mountain ranges with the Madison River flowing through it, Ennis is home to incredible outdoor recreation. You’ll also find vibrant western history, a great food and beverage scene and a place to get away from it all and relax. If you’re looking for the latter, you’ll want to book a stay at El Western Cabins & Lodges.
A five minute walk from town, this beautiful property is made up of log-hewn cabins and lodges set amongst a gorgeous meadow, a pasture with horses grazing in it and expansive mountain views. There’s even a creek running through the property. Book one of the Creekside Cabins to fall asleep to the sound of the burbling water. These cabins range from a small studio perfect for couples to larger suites that can accommodate small families. Both sizes have an option with a kitchen if you want to cook your own meals to enjoy on your front porch. Madison Foods is a short drive to stock up on ingredients.
If you’re looking for more space, the Mountainside Cabins will give you plenty of room. Depending on which cabin you choose, you’ll have one-to-two bedrooms, along with a full kitchen, a living and dining room, a back porch with a grill and a wood-burning fireplace. Traveling with a big group? Check out the Moose or Eagle’s Loft lodges. While these stunning accommodations still carry the log cabin style, they’re more like houses with an upscale feel. The Moose Lodge has two bedrooms and one bath, and the Eagle’s Loft Lodge has three bedrooms, three baths and vaulted ceilings.
The cabins are open from May through mid-October and all have heat to keep you warm on chilly Montana nights. The lodges are open year round, winter being a stunning time of year to explore Ennis and the surrounding landscape. Perhaps the best part of staying at El Western is all units are pet friendly, so you can relax and unwind with your best friend at your side.
Wake up to a cup of local coffee from Yellowstone Coffee Roasters that you can enjoy on the patio. Mornings are the perfect time to spot the area’s abundant wildlife. You’ll likely see deer enjoying the cool air and you might even catch sight of a moose or badger. Then, it’s time to explore Ennis and the surrounding area. Spend the day hiking, taking advantage of world-class fly fishing or touring the neighboring Old West towns of Virginia City and Nevada City. Take a tour of Willie’s Distillery to enjoy a hand-crafted cocktail before grabbing dinner in town. Yesterday’s Soda Fountain & Restaurant is a fun journey back in time serving delicious burgers and malts. For a more modern dinner, head to Alley Bistro or McAllister Steakhouse & Bar.
