Nola Darling – “STFU (Start The Riot)”

Sooo last night I walk into SOB’s and see these chicks on stage. After watching them perform 2 songs, I turned to my friend and said “wtf is this…and why do I love it?” LOL Needless to say, I’m now a Nola Darling fan. I don’t know much about these girls yet, but they’re dope. Their music, as well as their live show, embodies so much personality…and they’re kinda weird, but it REALLY works for them! Check out their video for “STFU (Start The Riot)” produced by Kwame.

I Worried My Grandmother (Read)

Yesterday I called my grandmother for her birthday & we spoke for a bit. I told her all the stuff I’ve been researching over the years and the way people trouble me. She listened and interjected here and there but in her voice I could hear fear. So, after the phone call I went out about my business & my mother texts me telling me, “You scared your grandma.” I called her and we spoke about the conversation I had with my grandma that scared her. My grandma is scared that what I speak about and I know will get me killed. Lucky me I’m not a paranoid person or this would of really thrown me off and had me living in a spider hole. One of the things I was telling my grandma in the conversation we had was that the audiences for revolutionaries are either nonexistent or very few. I believe there are plenty of Malcolm X’s out there but in this day and age no one has any fucks to give. Like before it used to be Malcolm X had a devout audience/following and let’s say the Klu Klux Klan had the same. But, now the revolutionaries have been muted and the revolution is seen as a social pariah. I gave my grandmother an example and it pertained to one of the a billion GOP debates were the mediator brought up to Rick Perry that since he’s been Governor of Texas there’s been 234 executions in his prisons. That’s not even the sick part. The sick part is that the crowd clapped and rejoiced even. What kind of people inhabit this planet that you clap for executions? And at a later debate they boo’ed a gay military man for asking them how they would handle the then instilled D.A.D.T (Don’t Ask Don’t Tell). But, when folk like Cornell West question Barack Obama position on foreign and domestic policy he’s crazy. The audiences have dumb down and become neanderthals. I am completely disgusted with the methods of many and how the media portrays it as something of normality amongst everyone. Like deporting kids parents because they don’t have documentations back to Mexico is acceptable. I told my grandmother many things and the organizations I deal with and the one’s I hope to deal with. She was very supportive but she is scared for me. I told my mother though that, “I’d rather be crazy because I know the truth than ignorant with a pretty smile.” The world isn’t going to change until the masses realize you are nothing more than pawns with dollar signs over your heads. We are on our way back to a monarchy where you and I are seen as serfs. I don’t care how many material things you have and what god you believe in if you don’t make work for someone you are a worker in the grand scheme of things. Everything is set up when it comes to people and the systems we are in and the ones that are now broken. They are only broken for us but the wealthy still benefit because they are coddled like newborns. I could go on more but I’m not trying to die today I still got a couple more things to do.
